{"id":6510,"date":"2008-10-14T15:22:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-14T22:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=6510"},"modified":"2008-10-15T09:51:03","modified_gmt":"2008-10-15T16:51:03","slug":"wv-county-finds-programming-error-on-day-before-early-voting-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6510","title":{"rendered":"WV Finds Ballot Programming Error The Day Before Early Voting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Guest Blogged by John Gideon of <a href=\"http:\/\/votersUnite.org\">VotersUnite.org<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/News\/election08\/200810140217\">From the <i>Charleston Daily Mail&#8230;<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">On the eve of early voting, problems with the general election ballots are causing Kanawha County [West Virginia] officials to conduct an emergency test of its voting machines.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the Secretary of State&#8217;s office notified the County Clerk&#8217;s office of a problem in the programming cards used in the [ES&#038;S] M100 machines.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8220;If a person votes a straight party ticket, then deviates from the party in the Supreme Court section, the machine still counts the vote as a full straight ticket, Carper said.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nThe county had a mandatory public test of the machines last week.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This last sentence is important. The county, and apparently other counties around the state, had already done their Logic and Accuracy testing and they had failed to find this problem. Thus the L&#038;A testing was not thorough enough to find problems in the ballot programming done by ES&#038;S. Of course, there is another question and that is who did the L&#038;A testing? The county?
