{"id":6465,"date":"2008-10-04T14:11:23","date_gmt":"2008-10-04T21:11:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=6465"},"modified":"2008-10-04T14:16:02","modified_gmt":"2008-10-04T21:16:02","slug":"false-flier-warns-of-election-day-arrests-in-pa-african-american-neighborhoods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6465","title":{"rendered":"False Flier Warns of Election Day Arrests in PA African-American Neighborhoods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dirty tricks are starting even earlier than usual this year. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/hp\/news_update\/20081002_Vote-scam_fliers_target_black_neighborhoods.html\">According to the <i>Philadelphia Daily News<\/i><\/a>, &#8220;An anonymous flier circulating in African-American neighborhoods in North and West Philadelphia states that voters who are facing outstanding arrest warrants or who have unpaid traffic tickets may be arrested at the polls on Election Day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <i>Daily News<\/i> goes on to note that &#8220;Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Everett Gillison, who learned of the flier last week, said that the message is completely false.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the misleading, dirty tricks flier&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/DirtyTricksFlier_ObamaSupportersToBeArrestedInPhiladelphia_100308.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The information seen above is an old, and venerable trick meant to scare Democrats, usually African-Americans, away from the the voting booth. We&#8217;ll likely see <i>much<\/i> more of it &#8212; and the variation of it, fliers that &#8220;inform&#8221; voters that Democrats are supposed to vote on <i>Wednesday<\/i> &#8212; between now and November 4th.<\/p>\n<p>A few similar dirty tricks fliers that were circulated in 2004, in Wisconsin and Ohio, are reposted below as a reminder&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/BlackVoterLeagueFlyer.gif\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/LakeCountyBoardOfElections.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/FranklinCountyOhio_ElectionBulletin_DirtyTrick_DemocratVotersWednesday.jpg\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p>(I had another one almost identical to the above from Ohio &#8217;04, I believe it pretended to be from Auglaize County, which used the telltale &#8220;DEMOCRAT&#8221; instead of &#8220;DEMOCRATIC&#8221;, but having trouble finding it for the moment&#8230;)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dirty tricks are starting even earlier than usual this year.
