The hearing included this frothy exchange between Yoo and the committee chairman, John Conyers (D-Mich.):<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">CONYERS: Could the President order a suspect buried alive?<\/p>\n<p> YOO: Uh, Mr. Chairman, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever given advice that the President could order someone buried alive&#8221;\u00a6<\/p>\n<p> CONYERS: I didn&#8217;t ask you if you ever gave him advice. I asked if you thought the President could order a suspect buried alive.<\/p>\n<p> YOO: Well Chairman, my view right now is that I don&#8217;t think a President &#8220;\u201d no American President would ever have to order that or feel it necessary to order that.<\/p>\n<p>  CONYERS: I think we understand the games that are being played.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Yoo was serving in the Justice Department&#8217;s Office of Legal Counsel from 2001 to 2003, when he wrote the infamous memo and contributed to the PATRIOT ACT.
