{"id":533,"date":"2004-09-13T13:30:13","date_gmt":"2004-09-13T17:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.test.bradblog.com\/?p=533"},"modified":"2004-09-13T13:30:13","modified_gmt":"2004-09-13T17:30:13","slug":"baghdad-burning-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=533","title":{"rendered":"Baghdad Burning&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/IraqPhoto_BradleyBurns.jpg\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">Along with a report that <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;u=\/nm\/20040912\/wl_nm\/iraq_dc_16\" target=\"_blank\">110 had been killed in Iraq yesterday<\/a> (<i>WaPo<\/i> puts the number as &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;cid=1802&#038;ncid=716&#038;e=17&#038;u=\/washpost\/20040913\/ts_washpost\/a15899_2004sep12\" target=\"_blank\">at least 80 civilians killed<\/a>&#8220;) including a Palestinian Journalist killed by US Forces from an Apache helicopter as the camera was rolling (<a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/media\/video\/40063000\/rm\/_40063230_iraq22_hawley12_vi.ram\" target=\"_blank\">video here<\/a>), and at least five major cities now completely controlled by &#8220;insurgents&#8221;, things seem to be disintegrating there quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately the Bush Corporation has an excellent PR department, so <i>anything<\/i> that gets through the PR filter to you and me between now and November 2nd can be assumed to be much worse than it&#8217;s reported. But, for those of us <i>trying<\/i> to pay attention to the black hole where we&#8217;re pumping so much blood and treasure, there are many hints lately of what&#8217;s <i>really<\/i> going on there (never mind Afghanistan which is similarly falling apart&#8230;not that it was ever &#8220;together&#8221; before we pulled out and moved to Iraq).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s just a few of the items from yesterday in Iraq, courtesy of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dailywarnews.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Today in Iraq<\/a>&#8220;:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">Bring \u2018em on: US troops in heavy fighting near Ramadi; ten Iraqis killed, 40 wounded.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Thirty-seven Iraqis killed in Baghdad fighting.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Three Polish soldiers killed, three wounded in ambush near Hilla.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: US troops launch offensive near Tal Afar.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Four Iraqi policemen killed, three wounded in ambush near Mosul.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Two Iraqi security guards wounded in attack on oil facility near Kirkuk.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Five Iraqis killed by car bomb targeting US convoy near Samarra.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Fifteen Iraqis killed in heavy fighting with US troops near Fallujah.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Three Iraqi soldiers killed in roadside bomb ambush near Hilla.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: US patrol attacked by roadside bomb near As-Sina.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: Camp Zulu under mortar fire.<br \/>\nBring \u2018em on: CJTF-7 reports US troops repelled coordinated attack on Abu Ghraib prison.<\/div>\n<p>Pay attention. This is still a <i>hot<\/i> war with injuries, deaths and attacks on US troops as high now as they&#8217;ve <i>ever>\/i> been! Bush\/Cheney would very much like Americans to look elsewhere between now and November.
