{"id":5244,"date":"2007-11-04T09:08:13","date_gmt":"2007-11-04T16:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=5244"},"modified":"2007-11-04T14:10:36","modified_gmt":"2007-11-04T21:10:36","slug":"tell-schumer-and-feinstein-to-vote-no-on-torture-vote-no-on-mukasey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5244","title":{"rendered":"Tell Schumer and Feinstein to Vote No on Torture &#8211; Vote No on Mukasey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Guest blogged by Jon Ponder, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pensitoreview.com\/\">Pensito Review<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Late on Friday, two Democratic senators on the Judiciary Committee announced that they intend to vote to confirm Michael Mukasey, Bush&#8217;s nominee to replace Alberto Gonzales as attorney general of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Mukasey has indicated that while he finds the Bush administration&#8217;s use of waterboarding on suspects to be personally repugnant, he will not object to its use when he becomes the nation&#8217;s top law enforcement officer.<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary Committee&#8217;s vote on Mukasey is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007.<\/p>\n<p>If you find the use of torture by the United States to be abhorrent, please call these two Democratic senators on Monday to urge them to vote against torture &#8212; and vote against Mukasey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE FROM BRAD:<\/strong> Feinstein <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/printedition\/asection\/la-oe-feinstein3nov03,1,998419.story?ctrack=1&#038;cset=true\">op\/eds her reasons<\/a> for giving Mukasey her vote in the <em>LATimes<\/em> today. She believes he&#8217;s &#8220;the best nominee we are going to get from this administration&#8221;, and says she &#8220;hopes&#8221; for the best, believing that Congress can race to have legislation passed outlawing waterboarding by the CIA (and have it signed by Bush) before Mukasey can rule it to be legal as the previous AG did. She also, apparently, is ignoring the fact that Mukasey is in favor of disenfranchising Photo ID laws, as <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5212\">we reported here last week<\/a>. What must this woman be thinking?!
