Apparently Diebold has known about this problem for some time. One election official claims that she THINKS no votes have been lost. Diebold says that around one percent of the memory cards are affected but the News Journal has found that some counties have reported over nine percent failure. There will be an election in Florida next week but the state is not requiring any beefed-up audits to ensure there are no lost votes. Diebold says they will inspect machines outside of Florida on a “case by case basis.” In other words, they are not going to warn their customers, and they won’t inspect anything unless a customer forces their hand. This is just another reason to recall all voting devices qualified by NASED and inspected by ITAs paid by the vendors to look the other way. It is time to “Rage against the machines”….

CT: Voting rules rankle tense city registrars
http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=18985117&BRD=1641&PAG=461&dept_id=594835&rfi=6

FL: Voting Out E-Voting Machines
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1680451,00.html

FL: Volusia County – Survey contradicts vote machine firm’s failure rate claim
http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/News/Headlines/frtHEAD05POL110307.htm

GA: Statesboro – Our Views: Citizens group should withdraw challenges to voter registrations
http://www.statesboroherald.com/news/article/6416/

GA: Statesboro – GSU Student Voting Debate
http://www.wsav.com/midatlantic/sav/news.apx.-content-articles-SAV-2007-11-01-0032.html

IN: Towns aim to balance costs, voters’ rights to equipment
http://www.pal-item.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071103/NEWS01/711030301/1008

IN: Hamilton County – Election Board seeks consistency in absentee ballot count
http://www.county29.net/cms2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7647&Itemid=230

PA: Fayette County – Judge names monitors at Brownsville polls
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribunereview/news/fayette/s_536089.html

PA: Luzerne County – Absentee procedures questioned
Attorney: County is violating election code by not counting those ballots at polling place.
http://www.timesleader.com/news/20071103_03elect_jen_ART.html

**”Daily Voting News” is meant as a comprehensive listing of reports each day concerning issues related to election and voting news around the country regardless of quality or political slant.
