{"id":5228,"date":"2007-10-30T17:37:38","date_gmt":"2007-10-31T00:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=5228"},"modified":"2008-08-18T23:27:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-19T06:27:00","slug":"ap-abc-tanner-apologizes-for-comments-that-apparently-video-taped-and-reported-themselves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5228","title":{"rendered":"AP &#038; ABC: Tanner Apologizes For Comments That Apparently Video Taped and Reported Themselves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/JohnTanner_SwornIn_103007.jpg\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ap.google.com\/article\/ALeqM5gyJrgu873K78Fok2q5jxp09eeoYwD8SJL5DG1\">Asociated Press<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abcnews.go.com\/TheLaw\/story?id=3795538&#038;page=1\">ABC<\/a> both cover the <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5222\">Judiciary Hearings with John Tanner today<\/a>, leading with his tepid apology: &#8220;I want to apologize for the comments I made at the recent meeting of the National Latino Congress about the impact of voter identification laws on elderly and minority voters &#8220;\u00a6 My explanation of the data came across in a hurtful way, which I deeply regret.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His data were fine (they weren&#8217;t), just that his explanation was hurtful. <\/p>\n<p>The head of the DoJ&#8217;s Civil Rights Division Voting Section&#8217;s apologia comes in response to comments made on a video tape that, according to both AP and ABC, apparently created itself, reported itself, and then posted itself on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>We suppose their lack of attribution of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5145\">original source<\/a> for both the video and reporting thereof (by your friendly neighborhood <a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">BRAD BLOG<\/a>) of comments that led to several hours of <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5222\">hell-raising testimony and confrontation<\/a> in the U.S. House Judiciary Committee today is a step up from the DNC&#8217;s version.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5219\">statement they released yesterday<\/a> from Howard Dean and Donna Brazile, calling for Tanner to be fired, <strong>they attributed the comments to FoxNews.com<\/strong>. Very thoughtful.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, we are so well off here at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">The BRAD BLOG<\/a>, so flush with overflowing resources, as based on the world-wide MSM recognition of the credibility of our work, we don&#8217;t need the DNC to recognize us for having handed them Tanner&#8217;s head on a silver platter via our elbow grease at our own expense.<\/p>\n<p>Rupert Murdoch, on the other hand, can use all the help he can get. If we&#8217;re able to raise enough for this month&#8217;s rent on <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5218\">our latest premium offer<\/a>, we&#8217;ll be sure to send whatever is left over to him. Happy DNC?<\/p>\n<p>(<em>Can you tell I&#8217;m rolling on little more than 3 hours&#8217; sleep today? Okay, done with my whining for tonight. Maybe.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><b>UPDATE:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/cbc-members-pummel-department-of-justice-official-2007-10-31.html\"><em>The Hill<\/em> reports<\/a> &#8220;CBC (Congressional Black Caucus) members pummel Department of Justice official&#8221; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=15785044&#038;ft=1&#038;f=1003\">NPR covers<\/a> as well. They credit no one for the original reporting. And includes an appropriate attribution.  In case it&#8217;s not clear, the attribution is not because we need ego strokes or pats on the back.
