{"id":5164,"date":"2007-10-15T17:12:01","date_gmt":"2007-10-16T00:12:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=5164"},"modified":"2007-10-19T14:27:34","modified_gmt":"2007-10-19T21:27:34","slug":"ny-times-paul-krugman-and-democracy-nows-amy-goodman-pick-up-brad-blog-story-video-on-doj-voting-chiefs-absurd-photo-id-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5164","title":{"rendered":"NY Times&#8217; Paul Krugman and Democracy Now&#8217;s Amy Goodman Pick Up BRAD BLOG Story, Video On DoJ Voting Chief&#8217;s Absurd Photo ID Comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We hadn&#8217;t noticed it, but last week <a href=\"http:\/\/krugman.blogs.nytimes.com\/2007\/10\/09\/only-the-black-die-young\/?ex=1192939200&#038;en=ed881fc5f63b937f&#038;ei=5070&#038;emc=eta1\">Paul Krugman over at the <i>NY Times<\/i><\/a> picked up on <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=5145\">our original exclusive report<\/a> on DoJ Voting Chief John Tanner&#8217;s recent comments saying while it&#8217;s a &#8220;shame&#8221; that the elderly are, in fact, disenfranchised by Photo ID restrictions at the polling place &#8212; like the one that he approved on behalf of the Department&#8217;s Civil Rights Division in Georgia &#8212; he&#8217;s less worried about minorities being disenfranchised because &#8220;minorities don&#8217;t become elderly. The way that white people do. They die first.&#8221;<br \/>\n<object width=\"240\" height=\"198\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/SMsg5m1qZQA\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/SMsg5m1qZQA\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" wmode=\"transparent\" width=\"240\" height=\"198\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"3\" borders=\"3\" align=\"left\"><\/embed><\/object>Unfortunately, Krugman credited our friends at TPM Muckraker for the story, even though <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpmmuckraker.com\/archives\/004414.php\">their story<\/a> followed up on, and properly credited, ours. Krugman&#8217;s comments were in his <em>NYTimes<\/em> blog and we hope he&#8217;ll cover the important matter in his regular column as well. Though if he does, we&#8217;d appreciate it if, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/10\/11\/AR2007101102146.html?wpisrc=newsletter&#038;wpisrc=newsletter\">Al Kamen&#8217;s coverage at <i>WaPo<\/i><\/a>, he offered appropriate attribution where it&#8217;s due.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=2620\">it matters<\/a>, and not just for our own ego.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Amy Goodman at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracynow.org\/article.pl?sid=07\/10\/15\/1351236\"><i>Democracy Now<\/i> today<\/a> also picked up on the story (<i>see the short video above left<\/i>) and gave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">The BRAD BLOG<\/a> the appropriate credit.
