They are also creating a Citizen Selection Committee to decide which system they want to purchase. Meanwhile Broward Co has issued a no-bid, sole source contract to ES&S. No open house. No citizen involvement in the decision. One county official claims that there are no choices because there is only Diebold/Premier, ES&S and Sequoia. However, they have overlooked the fact that a fourth player is in the process of getting their op-scans certified for use in the state; Dominion Voting Systems, a Canadian company with sales all over Canada. Of course part of the story may be the fact that one of the Broward Co Commissioners is married to a former lobbyist for ES&S. All of this makes Broward Co Florida officials today’s winner of the “Enemy of Democracy” award….

NAtional: GOP Says They’ll Continue Racist Voter Suppression Tactics
http://www.alternet.org/story/63574/

NAtional: Republicans Working Hard to Suppress Voting Rights
http://scoop.epluribusmedia.org/story/2007/9/26/22217/8867

NAtional: Von Spakovsky to slip through?
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/9/26/15268/5901

NAtional: Senate panel advances controversial FEC appointee
http://thehill.com/index2.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=68744&pop=1&page=0&Itemid=70#

CA: California’s big role in new primaries
http://www.insidebayarea.com/argus/oped/ci_7013470

CA: San Mateo County — Poll Workers Get E-Voting Machine Training
http://cbs5.com/localwire/localfsnews/bcn/2007/09/26/n/HeadlineNews/POLL-WORKERS/resources_bcn_html

CT: Out with the levers, in with the high-tech
http://www.acorn-online.com/news/publish/darien/23176.shtml

FL: Columnist – New vote machines, new set of problems?
http://www.sptimes.com/2007/09/27/Columns/New_vote_machines__ne.shtml

FL: Electomachine: Optical scanner?
