{"id":4933,"date":"2007-08-09T09:25:36","date_gmt":"2007-08-09T16:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=4933"},"modified":"2007-08-10T11:56:17","modified_gmt":"2007-08-10T18:56:17","slug":"kentucky-attorney-general-takes-on-hart-intercivic-and-diebold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=4933","title":{"rendered":"CA&#8217;s E-Voting Earthquake: Aftershocks Felt in Kentucky as State&#8217;s AG Takes On Voting Machine Companies in Light of California&#8217;s Demand to Correct Faulty, Insecure Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Guest Blogged by John Gideon, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersunite.org\">VotersUnite.Org<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The impact of California SoS Debra Bowen&#8217;s &#8220;Top-to-Bottom Review&#8221; is beginning to be felt, tangibly, in other states across the country. <\/p>\n<p>One such state is Kentucky, where this morning a <a href=\"http:\/\/ag.ky.gov\/news\/voterprotections.htm\">press release<\/a> was issued by the state&#8217;s Attorney General Gregory D. Stumbo demanding that electronic voting machine manufacturers immediately correct security flaws identified in the independent reviews by experts in California.<\/p>\n<p>In terse letters sent to voting machine companies Diebold and Hart Intercivic (<i>letters posted in full below<\/i>), Stumbo demanded that the companies &#8220;immediately implement in Kentucky all modifications and security upgrades necessary to correct the vulnerabilities identified by California.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stumbo had this to say during in his news release this morning:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">&#8220;Security upgrades are needed immediately to ensure voter confidence in the upcoming election,&#8221; said Attorney General Stumbo. &#8220;Waiting and hoping for the best is not an option when the problems are obvious. Kentucky deserves the same prompt corrective action as California.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile Kentucky&#8217;s &#8220;do-nothing&#8221; Secretary of State, Trey Grayson publicly criticized Attorney General Stumbo&#8217;s statements to which Stumbo retorted:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">&#8220;I cannot share Mr. Grayson&#8217;s do-nothing attitude.
