Here’s the headline:

Coulter Cleared in Florida Vote Probe
Commentator Coulter Cleared of Wrongdoing in Investigation of Her Vote in Wrong Fla. Precinct

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. May 11, 2007 (AP)

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter was cleared of wrongdoing after an investigation into whether she violated Florida law by voting in the wrong precinct.
…
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed the case April 12, concluding “there was insufficient probable cause to determine that Ann Coulter willfully or deliberately” violated any laws.

We guess the fact that an FBI agent — who, as we reported earlier today, is apparently her former boyfriend — interceded inappropriately in the case to claim she was being “stalked” (without evidence apparently) isn’t noteworthy enough to include in AP’s report.

Neither is the fact that the FBI has begun an internal investigation into the matter, according to the Palm Beach Post this morning.

No, instead, the AP reports — in an unbylined article! — Coulter’s wet dream headline that she’s been “cleared.”

And despite the fact that her Loyal Bushie attorney didn’t even bother to respond to AP’s request for comment, AP passed on his wet dream by reporting completely unsubstantiated horseshit to the effect of: “Her attorney, Marcos Daniel Jimenez, told the detective Coulter may have not changed a previous address because of a stalking incident.”

That’s a bald-faced lie. Coulter didn’t “not change” anything….

Coulter specifically and purposely used an incorrect address when she filled out both her Voter Registration form as well as her Driver’s License after moving to Palm Beach in March of 2005. She then knowingly voted at the wrong precinct.

She used her realtor’s address — without telling the realtor — which is very thoughtful, especially since she claims to be worried that there was a “stalker” out to get her.

Coulter’s evidence of a “stalking incident,” apparently, doesn’t exist. Or, if AP has seen any such evidence, they didn’t find it newsworthy enough to share with us. They just passed on the unsubstantiated bullshit to readers. And didn’t bother to sign any reporter’s name to it. So who wrote the AP piece?

And after all the hassle the Election Supervisor has received in trying to bring charges against Coulter for the past year, Coulter may get her way yet, according to AP:

Elections Supervisor Arthur Anderson, a Democrat, said he was displeased with the sheriff’s office investigation, noting that the detective never informed him of the outcome.

“But at this juncture, I don’t want to consume any more of my time with this matter,” Anderson said.

We’re not used to giving pats on the back to Palm Beach County, FL election officials, but in this case, Anderson deserves one, we think, for correctly pursuing this matter through at least three different arms of law enforcement, all of whom have managed to come up with differing excuses for not having the balls to bring charges against Coulter. Even while every other Democratic Tom, Dick, and Harry was being charged with trumped up GOP charges of “voter fraud” by the U.S. Department of Justice!

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, however, was the first to suggest there was “insufficient probable cause to determine that Ann Coulter willfully or deliberately violated any laws,” but only after hearing from her FBI ex- boyfriend and failing to even interview Coulter.

In the meantime, Coulter, an attorney admitted to the New York Bar, must not have “willfully or deliberately violated any laws” when she signed her name next to an OATH on her voter registration application swearing that “All information on this form is true. I understand that if it is not true, I can be convicted of a felony of the third degree and fined up to $5,000 and/or imprisoned for up to five years.”

Here’s her fraudulent signed voter registration form if you have any questions about it.

Apparently neither the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, nor AP, can be bothered to either read or do their damned jobs correctly. It’s official: The Rule of Law does not apply if you’re a Republican in America.

The entire library of evidence documenting Coulter’s two willful and deliberate third-degree felonies and one first-degree misdemeanor is available on BRAD BLOG’s “Ann Coulter Voter Fraud” Special Coverage Page. We just try and do it well, because it’s the right thing to do!

UPDATE: At least UPI had the courtesy to get the story close to right…

UPDATE 5/13/07: Later in the day, it appears that AP updated their story by adding author Brian Skoloff to the byline and three additional grafs late in the story, including one with a quick additional quote from Coulter’s attorney, Jimenez (a former Bush-appointed U.S. Attorney for Florida’s Southern District, btw) and a two on the FBI involvement…

“This incident has been blown out of proportion,” Jimenez said in an e-mail Friday. “It is time that this matter be put to rest.”

The detective also stated that an agent in the FBI’s behavioral analysis unit contacted her on behalf of Coulter during the investigation. Agent Jim Fitzgerald “stated he has been working a stalking incident involving Ann Coulter” and that the columnist has been afraid, the report stated.

The agent noted he did not intend to “sway the outcome” of the elections investigation. It was not immediately clear why he intervened.

…Of course, as limp as Skoloff’s reporting on the FBI angle was, even that much didn’t make it into most of the outlets that picked up the AP story, as a Google search reveals. Most ran with the original version. Let’s hope Skoloff’s picks up the ball and follows up appropriate on the FBI angle now that there is new evidence that largely invalidates the “Coulter Cleared” angle of the original piece.

[Ed Note: Story updated with additional details.
