{"id":4225,"date":"2007-03-05T16:53:24","date_gmt":"2007-03-06T00:53:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=4225"},"modified":"2007-03-06T03:49:38","modified_gmt":"2007-03-06T11:49:38","slug":"daily-voting-news-for-march-04-and-5-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=4225","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Daily Voting News&#8217; For March 04 and 5, 2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Guest Blogged by John Gideon of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.VotersUnite.org\">VotersUnite.org<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.VotersUnite.org\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/DVNLogo.jpg\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\"><\/a>There are many good provisions in the new election reform bill (HR 811 introduced by Congressman Rush Holt D-NJ), called the &#8220;Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2007.&#8221;\u009d There is significant momentum in the U.S. House to pass the bill as written; and it is on a &#8220;fast-track.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>BUT, the bill allows the continued use of electronic &#8220;ballots&#8221; &#8212; invisible data on a computer &#8212; as the ballots of record. Democracy demands that voters can know the selections on their own ballots. This means all ballots must be cast on paper and only paper &#8220;\u201c no electronic ballots, which keep the ballot secret from the voter. <\/p>\n<p>The members must hear from us &#8211; NOW &#8211; that the bill urgently needs an amendment to ban electronic ballots. <\/p>\n<p>We are not seeking to &#8220;kill&#8221; the bill, but to gain support for an amendment banning electronic ballots and the use of Direct Record Electronic (DRE) voting machines, which create them.
