Particularly since we&#8217;ve been following Diebold&#8217;s financial malfeasance closely for some time, including breaking the original report of both the <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=2154\">Securities Fraud Class Action suit<\/a> against the company last December, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=2805\">SEC&#8217;s original &#8220;informal&#8221; (now formal!) investigation<\/a> of Diebold in May.<\/p>\n<p>Hat-tip to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votetrustusa.org\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=1658&#038;Itemid=51\">Warren Stewart of VoteTrustUSA.org<\/a> for picking up news of the now-formal investigation late last week (and to John Gideon who, naturally, noticed in <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=3208\">last Thursday&#8217;s &#8216;Daily Voting News&#8217;<\/a>)&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\"><a href=\"http:\/\/today.reuters.com\/news\/articleinvesting.aspx?type=governmentFilingsNews&#038;storyID=2006-08-07T215116Z_01_N07396770_RTRIDST_0_FINANCIAL-DIEBOLD-UPDATE-1.XML\">Reuters is reporting<\/a> that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has begun a formal investigation into how Diebold recognizes revenue. In a public filing in May, Diebold has acknowledged that SEC staff had begun an informal inquiry but the company&#8217;s latest filing on July 27 reported that the investigation had been converted into a formal nonpublic investigation.<\/p>\n<p>SEC investigations typically begin as informal inquiries.
