{"id":26,"date":"2004-03-18T10:00:30","date_gmt":"2004-03-18T14:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.test.bradblog.com\/?p=26"},"modified":"2007-09-10T15:57:20","modified_gmt":"2007-09-10T22:57:20","slug":"adjusting-old-smokey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=26","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Adjusting&#8217; Old Smokey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And here I thought it possible that the Bush Administration would figure out that decieving, misleading and keeping secrets from the American People was actually <i>counter<\/i>-productive to their chances of staying in office.<\/p>\n<p>What was I thinking?!<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;cid=513&#038;e=1&#038;u=\/ap\/national_parks_cuts\" target=\"_blank\">stunning report today from AP<\/a> uncovers a recent memo from a National Park Services Deputy Director that not only outlines planned cutbacks to our National Treasures, but the directive to keep them a secret from the public, the media and even congress!<\/p>\n<p>From the memo:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">&#8220;If you think that some of your specific plans will cause a public or political controversy, Marie and I need to know which ones are likely to end up in the media or result in a congressional inquiry.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>It then goes on to say:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">&#8220;&#8230;if you feel you must inform the public &#8230; [do not] directly indicate that &#8216;this is a cut&#8217; in comparison to last year&#8217;s operation&#8230;We all agreed to use the terminology of &#8216;service level adjustment&#8217; due to fiscal constraints as a means of describing what actions we are taking.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;If you <i>must<\/i> inform the <i>public<\/i>&#8220;?? Good lord.
