{"id":229,"date":"2004-06-08T16:13:14","date_gmt":"2004-06-08T20:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.test.bradblog.com\/?p=229"},"modified":"2004-06-08T16:13:14","modified_gmt":"2004-06-08T20:13:14","slug":"while-you-were-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=229","title":{"rendered":"While you were out&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few items you may have missed so far while the nation desperately seizes the opportunity to avoid our woes for a few days&#8230;And the &#8220;Liberal Media&#8221; helps to play along&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>For the record, so far, at least 7 US Troops in Iraq <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/SPECIALS\/2003\/iraq\/forces\/casualties\/2004.06.html\" target=\"_blank\">have died<\/a> in the 3 days since Ronald Reagan did&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trivalleyherald.com\/Stories\/0,1413,86~10669~2196114,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">From the <i>AP<\/i><\/a>, Rumsfeld in Singapore last Saturday, on losing the &#8220;War on Terror&#8221;:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">The United States and its allies are winning some battles in the terrorism war, but may be losing the broader struggle against Islamic extremism that is terrorism&#8217;s source, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><b>The troubling unknown, he said, is whether the extremists<\/b> &#8212; whom he termed &#8220;zealots and despots&#8221; bent on destroying the global system of nation-states &#8212; <b>are turning out newly trained terrorists faster than the United States can capture or kill them.<\/b> <\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;It&#8217;s quite clear to me that we do not have a coherent approach to this,&#8221;<\/b> Rumsfeld said at an international security conference. <i>[emphasis added]<\/i><\/div>\n<p><i>(Now it occurs to you!)<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/world\/iraq\/2004-06-05-britain-iraq_x.htm\" target=\"_blank\">From <i>AP<\/i><\/a>, Former Chief Weapons Inspector David Kay on the WMD Dead-Enders:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">&#8220;Anyone out there holding &#8211; as I gather Prime Minister Blair has recently said &#8211; the prospect that, in fact, the Iraq Survey Group is going to unmask actual weapons of mass destruction, are really delusional.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p><i>(Liar!)<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.infoshop.org\/inews\/stories.php?story=04\/06\/07\/0988582\" target=\"_blank\">From <i>The Wall Street Journal<\/i><\/a> on the Administration&#8217;s classified 100-page report on how they might avoid US Law and the Geneva Convention in order to use torture:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">To protect subordinates should they be charged with torture, the memo advised that Mr. Bush issue a &#8220;presidential directive or other writing&#8221; that could serve as evidence, <b>since authority to set aside the laws is &#8220;inherent in the president.&#8221;<\/b> <i>[emphasis added]<\/i><\/div>\n<p><i>(And you thought <i>Clinton<\/i> had no respect for &#8220;The Rule of Law&#8221;?!
