A San Francisco State and UC Berkeleystudy published Tuesday found California emissions reductions came from largely out-of-state earlier this decade. Wara says that reflects how the state started by making the most economical cuts. &#8220;The first thing that California did was to wean our utilities off of this dirty coal-fired power, and as a result of that, you don&#8217;t see a lot of in-state benefit,&#8221;\u009d Wara said. &#8220;I think moving forward we&#8217;re likely to see more of that if only because we&#8217;ve run out of options out of state to reduce our emissions.&#8221;\u009d<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><b>Marriott International Hotels ditches plastic straws:<\/b><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/marriott-ending-plastic-straw-use-in-all-it-hotels\/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&#038;linkId=54429177\"><b>Marriott ending plastic straw use in all it hotels<\/b><\/a> (AP):\n<div class=\"mediagreen\">Cox said banning straws has gone over well with patrons, partly because the resort has posted signs explaining why straws aren&#8217;t offered. It had anticipated that half of patrons would request paper straws for their ice tea and other beverages, but Cox said only about 20 percent have done so. Marriott has made other moves to reduce its environmental footprint. Earlier this year, it began replacing small bottles of shampoo and conditioner with in-shower dispensers at many of its hotels.
