Creigh Deeds (D) was stabbed multiple times<\/a> in his own home, by his son Gus who, having reportedly had a mental evaluation the day before, was <i>not<\/i> kept overnight, due to lack of bed space in western Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Gus shot himself to death that morning, after stabbing his father who was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition as of Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Sen. Deeds was <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/creigh-deeds-discharged-from-hospital\">released from the hospital<\/a> in &#8220;good&#8221; condition, and returned to Twitter to send this message his many supporters&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-partner=\"tweetdeck\">\n<p>I am alive so must live. Some local hospitals have said, since the incident, that they <i>did<\/i> have room, but were not contacted&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">&#8220;I hope we can make a positive change as a result of this tragedy,&#8221; [Deeds] told The Recorder. &#8220;I hope the justice we can get for my son is to force change in the delivery system for mental health services.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8220;I am alive for a reason, and I will work for change,&#8221; Deeds said. &#8220;I owe that to my precious son.&#8221;<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s end this week far better than it began On Tuesday, Virginia state Sen.
