Federal prosecutors said [James] Tobin and other Republicans had hired a company to make the calls to disrupt the organizations&#8217; get-out-the-vote efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Tobin was charged with conspiracy to commit telephone harassment and aiding and abetting. He could get up to five years in prison.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nAmong the races affected by the jamming was the Senate contest between Democratic Gov. Jeanne Shaheen and Republican Rep. John E. Sununu. Sununu won by about 20,000 votes.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8220;I think it&#8217;s unfortunate the Justice Department delayed, for whatever reasons that it did, until after the election,&#8221; state Democratic chairwoman Kathy Sullivan said<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nOver the summer, Chuck McGee, former executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and admitted paying $15,600 to a Virginia telemarketing company that hired another business to make the calls. A GOP consultant with the telemarketing company also pleaded guilty. The two men are awaiting sentencing.<\/div>\n<p>Please note that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/week_2004_10_17.php#003740\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Marshall reported way back in October<\/a> on Tobin and his involvement in the 2002 campaign <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/week_2003_02_02.php#000625\" target=\"_blank\">phone-jamming scandal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Which, Marshall pointed out back then, meant that the Bush\/Cheney campaign knew full-well about Tobin&#8217;s involvement in the scandal for <i>at least<\/i> three and a half months before he was forced to resign due to Democrat complaints about his position in the Bush\/Cheney campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Still think they wouldn&#8217;t do it? If they&#8217;d go to such lengths for a mid-term senate race, after all&#8230;Why would they have stopped attempting to fix elections in 2004, the fight of their lives? <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Think they wouldn&#8217;t do it?
