As reported by Mother Jones on heels of revelations that “Family Values” Senator David Vitter (R-LA) was on DC Madam’s list of clients…
Thought we were done? Nope. Vitter once compared same-sex marriage to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The first line of his official biography reads, “David Vitter is dedicated to making life better for his young family and all Louisiana families.”
But then, hypocrisy runs across Vitter’s “young family.” After extramarital affairs by Louisiana rep and now-you-see-him-now-you-don’t Speaker of the House Bill Livingston were revealed, Vitter’s wife was asked how she would react if her husband had been caught in an affair, like Livingston and Bill Clinton. “I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary [Clinton],” she said. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”
She also added, “I think fear is a very good motivating factor in a marriage. Don’t put fear down.” But, as usual, Republicans’ use of fear is clearly more of a bullying/control tactic (if normally an effective one) than anything else.
According to Vitter’s statement last night to AP, he previously informed his wife about his “very serious sin in [his] past for which [he is], of course, completely responsible.” And yet, we haven’t noticed Vitter walking with a limp lately. Guess his wife was just kidding.
And credit where it’s due. It was the folks at Hustler [DISCLOSURE: BRAD BLOG’s creator and editor-in-chief, Brad Friedman, is a frequent contributor to that magazine, as well as Mother Jones for that matter] who found Vitter’s phone number on Deborah Jeane Palfrey’s list of clients and contacted him for comment yesterday afternoon, before Vitter then went running to AP for his confession in order to try and get out in front of the story.
Brad, another issue is the GOD stuff has got to be stopped! Republicans invoking GOD whenever they get caught with their pants down, or breaking the law! DeLay was talking to Jesus while he was getting his mug shot taken. Bush talked to GOD for the Iraq War, coke & alcohol. This has got to be OUTED and STOPPED!
GOD did NOT talk to Vitter and forgive him. This is the same tactic as “against the troops”, and all those other tactics.
“GOD forgave me, so DROP IT!”
“Are YOU questioning GOD? GOD said it was OK and he forgave me! So YOU better not question GOD!”
This invoking GOD whenever they’re in trouble has GOT TO STOP!
If I did that at MY job? “I screwed up this computer program…but GOD forgave me.” This cannot be allowed to keep happening, with Republicans LYING that GOD talked to them, whenever they’re in trouble!

Well, if the God forgiving him doesn’t work, he’ll claim alchoholism and check in for rehab, and come out “all better” and “totally right with Jesus.”
These hypocrites MUST be stopped.

Also Tuesday, details resurfaced about an allegation that Vitter paid weekly visits to a prostitute in the French Quarter in the late 1990s….
The allegations never surfaced in the congressional campaign, but The Louisiana Weekly, a New Orleans newspaper, wrote about them in 2002 and 2004. Vitter denied the accusations. The prostitute never spoke publicly about the alleged affair, which was largely ignored by mainstream news organizations.
“She said she was having a paid affair often on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Dauphine and Dumaine,” Bruno said, referring to two French Quarter streets.
“It’s very sleazy, and it’s illegal. But, OK, it doesn’t apply to senators. They’re an elite group,” Bruno said with irony. He has called on Vitter to resign….

Flynt says investigator linked Vitter to madam
Flynt said that Vitter isn’t the only lawmaker to appear on the thousands of pages of phone records Palfrey placed on the Internet Monday. He said 30 members of Congress are on the list and he plans to make them public, although he didn’t say when.
“It should be a very interesting political year,” Flynt said…
Flynt said that Vitter’s number appears on the DC Madam’s phone records once, on Feb. 27, 2001, the day that President Bush unveiled his tax-cut package to Congress. The call was logged at 3:06 p.m. Pacific time, according to Palfrey’s records. She ran her call-girl operation out of her home in California.
A search of the records by The Times-Picayune shows the same number appearing at least five times between Oct. 12, 1999 and Feb. 27, 2001. Generally the calls lasted only a minute or two, records show.

Just because Vitter says he believes in God dosen’t mean he’s perfect. Who is. If you believe in God,,, the best part of him says to forgive.. I don’t hear him saying “I’m perfect because I believe in God”. I wonder how you all felt about Clinton???? I’d guess that because you liked what was going on in the country that that was more important than breaking his marital covenants. The question is can you forgive and/or trust someone who breaks such a major commitment? I think we all can forgive, The trust takes time and has to be earned. Would I like him for my Senator, probably not. Do I think any of the politicians are trustworthy…. Absolutely not… Take all the lawyers and judges out and never let them back in… That would be a good start.. It’s time for another tea party.

The difference is that Clinton did not say God had forgiven him so the House had to back off and leave him alone as Vitter is.
He went thru the process and Senate trial and defeated the charges drafted in the House.
