Last week we ran a story from AP about which we (pardon the pun) could make neither heads nor tails of. It concerned a report from the Dept. of Defense warning American contractors in Canada to be on the lookout for coins containing tiny radio transmitters — presumably to track the locations of those contractors.
At the time, additional details from DoD were “classified”. Perhaps now we find out why. It was all bullshit. From AP on Friday…
The Defense Security Service said it never could substantiate its own published claims about the mysterious coins. It has begun an internal review to determine how the false information was included in a 29-page report about espionage concerns.
…
Experts said such tiny transmitters almost certainly would have limited range to communicate with sensors no more than a few feet away, such as ones hidden inside a doorway. The metal coins also would interfere with any signals emitted, they said.
Experts also warned that hiding tracking technology inside coins would be fraught with risks because the spy’s target might inadvertently give away the coin or spend it.
…
The service initially maintained that its report on the spy coins was accurate but said further details about the spy coins were classified.
Apparently these guys are having trouble separating the phony intelligence from the phony intelligence. Luckily, Judith Miller wasn’t around to report it on the front page of the New York Times, else we might have had American troops marching into Saskatchewan by now.
United we stand.

This confirms my suspicions that we are LIVING IN some sort of “B” grade movie, most likely produced under the supervision of David Horowitz.
This story seemed ridiculous as well as strange, when I first heard it.
Speaking of conspiracies, there is a new PBS documentary about Harvey Oswald for “American Experience”. The guy who made it was on a local radio broadcast here because they were having a screening last Saturday.
He started the interview by saying it wasn’t the intent of the movie to place blame on anybody for the assassination of Kennedy, but then at the end of the show, he said he believed that Oswald was the “perfect” man to have done it, and he thought it was Oswald.
Also it is being advertised as “Oswald’s Ghost – What Really Happened”. So in other words, I guess you could say, it isn’t meant to promote any particular view of who killed Kennedy, but does.
PBS obviously has some wonderful programs and employs some of the best talent in the nation, but they always portray people who don’t trust the government as “conspiracy theorists”, while giving people who side with the government’s story a forum. That’s why they NEVER give the voting machine debacle any credence.
I’m not an expert on this, but from what I’ve seen, Oswald could not have done this alone, and I think the Warren Commission’s report is as ludicrous as the 911 Commission’s report. BradBlog used to have a blogger and historical author who was an expert, and I tend to believe his version of the assassination.
I haven’t seen the movie, and I’m sure it will be interesting because of the subject, but be warned!
Larry Bergan – FWIW, the PBS program NOW with David Brancaccio (sic?) has done a very good job of covering Election Integrity issues. Can’t say the same for the Newshour, but at least NOW has been good with several shows covering the issue in detail. At least one on the voting machines themselves and another on the phone Photo ID stuff.
I’ve got at least one of them linked up right here.
Just wanted to get that on the record.
Brad:
I’m practically a walking “NOW” advertisement. It is, without a doubt, the best over-the-air political show in the country. I am thrilled that Bill Moyers will be embarking on a new series and was glued to his treatment of the Abramoff lobbying travesty, but I don’t know how they could bring up Bob Ney in the show without mentioning his connections to the most disenfranchising and dangerous scam in our history. I guess that type of information will have to be gleaned from a music magazine.
I love PBS and I’m sure the people who work there are very upset about what’s going on. I know the corruption in our present government has it’s paws on these good people and they’re doing what they can.
