Don’t be fooled by the Administration lap dogs, on and in the Mainstream and Extremist Media, when you hear that “things are finally cooling down in Iraq since the handover of ‘sovereignty'”. It’s not so much that things have cooled down, but that the Media has – as is their pattern – begun to grow weary of the story.
The facts on the ground, as this Boston Globe piece demonstrates, are likely very different from the perceptions you’re being peddle by the bulk of the Mainstream Media:
The relatively high rate of US military casualties has dimmed hope that the handover of power to the Iraqi government would help stabilize the country and reduce pressure on US soldiers.
…
Since the June 28 handover of power, the 160,000 coalition forces have averaged more than two deaths a day, among the highest rate of losses since the war began 15 months ago. By Saturday, 36 US soldiers had died this month, compared with 42 last month, according to a Globe analysis of official statistics.
Looks like I’ll have to begin reporting more of the real numbers here, since the “Liberal” Media seems to be moving on from the story as is their tendency. Lest I be guilty of the same short attention span I accuse them of having.

When did we stop looking up? I think it’s not only true of the media, that it has grown bored with it – but of many Americans. After 9/11 and the skys were empty, the silence was chilling. I noticed many people looking up in the sky. But worse was when planes started flying again. Any time an airplane would fly over, everyone would stop talking and look up at the plane. But I wondered then, how long before we stopped looking up? How long before Americans put it out of their minds and grew bored with the media coverage. So why when not cover something as important as Americans dying in another country? I think part of it is the government no longer wishes to bring it to the front page. But another part of it is that it no longer sells papers. America has grown bored with it, so new papers have moved on to other topics of horror.
But then, I could be wrong.
Kimber – How many care packages have you sent to the soldiers in Iraq? I know, as a good liberal, you support the military, just not Bush.
This is the second time now that Paul has attempted to equate "sending care packages" with supporting the troops.
It’s as if his concsience over sending them off unprepared and unsupported to die in a pointless war is somehow salved if he (presumably) sends a care package.
"Stick of gum before getting your leg blown off, soldier?" … These guys are a piece of work. We’re glad to have you here at the BRAD BLOG, Paul! You do a better job of buffooning the Right then I could ever do! Thank you!
Well, as for sending care packages – if I weren’t stuck in this financial hell that Bush has created, then possibly I could afford to send care packages. However, with three full time employees trying to support our family and struggling due to a piss poor economy and the impossible task to find decent jobs I haven’t had much time to put together anything to support the men and women who are over-seas fighting for…..what were we over there for again? I don’t support the military, I don’t support Bush, I don’t support any Right wing fanatical faction that says we are over there for….why are we over there again? Was it terrorism? Was it to bring them democracy (er, from you other thread though you claimed we weren’t a democracy). Looking for WMD….that weren’t there. Oh, no, that’s right, we were over there for Oil Rights. Oh, no, that’s not it, we are over there trying to win support for a president that had such a low approval rating. Or was it simply that the administration no longer needed their support or was it just a grudge match. I’ve lost track of what story the White House is trying to sell this week. So, this ‘bleeding heart liberal’ (love that phrase) is unable to support either the soldiers or the war for….er….. However, I have to add that I would support the soldiers if I could. It’s not their fault that they have to follow the orders of a lost administration. They are just doing their jobs. At least they have jobs. Even if Bush has cut the benefits to the lower levels of military massively. They are just doing what they are told to do.
